The Wednesday Play - "Waiting at Home"

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

Introducing "Waiting at Home" by The Wednesday Play, an upbeat post-punk/dance track coming from their forthcoming self-titled album. This song, blending Synthpop, New Wave, and Electro, resonates with the energetic mood of the early 80s kind of with new wave crossover. The track bears similarities to artists like Tom Tom Club, Debbie Harry, Gang Of Four, and Gorillaz. The Wednesday Play's origin story is as unique as their music. A chance meeting in a South East London pub circa 2004 led singer/songwriter Robert Paul and producer Sam Soper to form The Severed Limb, a roots rock band. American vocalist Tina Swasey contributes to the track, adding a vibe reminiscent of Tom Tom Club to us we think or Rapture-era Debbie Harry, while the spiky guitar brings a pure Gang Of Four essence. Despite the energetic music, the lyrics really delve into themes of paranoia and insomnia, something a lot of people aren't usually comfortable with sharing, capturing the anxiety of waiting for a late-night telephone call. The song creatively utilizes various vintage drum machines and Sam Soper’s hand-built synth. "Waiting at Home" is a testament to The Wednesday Play's ability to blend different musical elements into a cohesive and compelling sound. Listen now to see what we mean.
