Introducing Sharkk Heartt with "This Will Hurt". A fusion of Electro Pop and Indie Electronic with shades of Alt Pop, this song is a deeply introspective exploration of change, pain, and hope. Interestingly enough the track, part of the 2021 album "Wars Our Mothers Fought," was born during a songwriting retreat in Nederland, Colorado, known as “Camp Ned.” It captures a sense of impending cataclysm but also leaves a small window of hope that something new could still emerge. We think that the track features soft, emotional, and throaty vocals set against the backdrop of a piano, giving the single a raw, emotional pulse.
While on residency in Hawai'i as the National Parks Arts Foundation's artist-in-residence, Ruggles found a visual counterpart to the themes of her song in the landscapes she encountered. She juxtaposed iPhone footage of these landscapes with archival footage of natural and man-made disasters, crafting a poignant music video that comments on both environmental issues and the resilience of nature.
At its core, "This Will Hurt" addresses the harsh realities and complexities of today's world. Lines like “but I will not intervene to save you pain” reflect a boundary-setting attitude towards emotional labor, capturing the idea that growth often involves discomfort and facing the consequences of one's actions, listen below.
