Seja - "Home"

Seja, the Australian synthesizer songstress, has released her second single, "Home," from her upcoming album, "Here Is One I Know You Know," set to release later this year in 2023. "Home" is a beautiful dreamy, psychedelic love song to the comforts of home, showcasing Seja's diverse and intersecting modes of synthetic and electronic expression. The track swirls between blissful meditation and a joyful paean, enveloping the listener like a warm cloud.

Seja's music has always been a unique blend of synth-pop, indie electronic, dream pop, and psychedelic influences. "Home" is no exception, as she channels Giorgio Moroder and Neu! while ending up sounding more like Enya. The track is a love letter to her comforts and enjoying this time in her life when she takes more pleasure in being inside than being out partying or socializing. She states that it would have been written the same way without the pandemic, although she wrote it during the thick of the pandemic.

Seja's use of Roland Space Echo and playing everything she owns as almost a new instrument is evident in "Home," creating new dynamics and textures that are truly unique. She wrote the song on synths along with a drum machine, and it came together when George Browning played live drums over it. The relationship between sequenced sweeping electronic instruments and real drums is one of her favorite things, and it's evident in "Home" when he started playing along to the swinging running SH-7 bassline. Georgia Mooney's backing vocals sprinkle magic into the mix, making "Home" a truly collaborative effort.

Fans of Stereolab, Portishead, BEAK>, Warpaint, Jane Weaver, Julia Holter, Grouper, Weyes Blood, Linda Perhacs, and The Marias will love "Home" and Seja's unique blend of genres and influences. "Home" is a beautiful addition to her discography and a promising glimpse into her upcoming album.
