Upcoming artist Sam Rappaport spent most of his life believing that he was headed for the NBA. It didn’t work out…and he’s been searching for purpose ever since. Sam’s traversed the country, taking jobs as a case manager at a welfare office, a reporter for local newspapers, a bartender at a Sichuan restaurant…but he’s never strayed too far from a piano and a healthy stack of yellow legal pads. It was at Brooklyn open mics, house parties, and comedy shows that Sam gained his footing as a songwriter able to pull from folk, rock, and soul to craft intimate, understated compositions. In addition to his solo work, Sam co-fronts the indie-rock band Gooseberry. He resides in Brooklyn with his dog, Sophie. "Till the Morning Comes" (released on Feb. 3, 2021) was Sam's debut single as a solo artist. The song follows in the tradition of musicians like Norah Jones, Randy Newman, and Tom Waits, drawing on elements of jazz and pop to undergird a poignant story. With the release of his newest single "Journeyman's Ballet," he projects a very dreamy sound that will certainly grasp your ears. Beginning with soothing instrumentation leading onto his sweet and soft vocals he completes the single entirely. Explaining the track further, sam's silky, melancholic vocals, reminiscent of John Mayer, hang delicately above the type of buoyant groove you might find in the music of Michael McDonald. Sam tapped Toledo's Daniel Alvarez and Jordyn Dunn-Pilz to produce the track, which showcases the duo's talent for invitingly warm, layered arrangements.
