Indie electronic trio Occurrence are back with their fourth album, Slow Violence, set for release on April 7th, 2023. Along with the album announcement, the group has shared the lead single "Heels Over Head," a jubilant electro-pop anthem that showcases their signature sound.
The song was born during lockdown in the summer of 2020, when Johnny and Ken began working on the track. Since Cat couldn't be there in person, Ken sampled her vocals and played them on a keyboard, creating the illusion that she was in the studio with Johnny. The band also enlisted Kip Berman of The Natvral and Pains of Being Pure at Heart to play guitar on the track.
"Heels Over Head" is a celebration of the joy of falling in love. Johnny's lyrics capture the thrill of that moment when you realize you're head over heels, and nothing anyone does or says can change your mind. The song is a perfect blend of light and dark, with Ken's ability to create parallel universes within a single song providing the perfect backdrop for Johnny's joyful lyrics.
In short, "Heels Over Head" is a must-listen for fans of indie electronic music. Occurrence continues to push the boundaries of the genre, creating a sound that is both familiar and fresh. Keep an ear out for their fourth album, Slow Violence, coming April 7th, 2023.
