Writer: deathordesiredeathordesire

Mounika is a multifaceted musician, composer, and producer who is known for his lo-fi gems, blending elements of instrumental hip-hop, downtempo, and electronica. He draws inspiration from a range of genres, including trip-hop, piano, and Afrobeat. His upcoming album, "Don't Look At Me," is set to be released on May 12th, 2023, and his recent single, "Nomadics," offers a taste of what's to come.

"Nomadics" is a delectable track that features a looped sample with electronic elements, creating a sense of longing and nostalgia. The track showcases Mounika's evolution as a musician, moving towards a more electronic sound while still retaining his signature style. The accompanying Cinéma vérité style clip, directed by rising Parisian filmmaker Julien Philips, captures the feeling of nostalgia and wandering through its depiction of crossed destinies, encounters that linger with us during endless wanderings, and regrets that we watch out of the corner of the window.

Mounika's love for comics and graphic novels is evident in his collaboration with Berlin artist Joe Taylor, who creates the album's artwork featuring two comic book characters Carl & TJ. The characters form part of the story across the album and singles artwork, offering fans a visual narrative that accompanies the music. The artwork for the singles is represented in dedicated comic strips, and Carl & TJ form an inseparable duo that navigate the imaginary world of ‘Don't Look At Me’ music and the real world.

"Nomadics" is just a taste of what's to come on Mounika's upcoming album. "Don't Look At Me" was recorded during the pandemic in the intimacy of his home studio, allowing him to explore various strains of electronic music and showcase another facet of his artistic personality. The album retains the essence of the warm and contemplative music that defines his sound, while also featuring collaborations with international artists such as Lord Apex, Roland Faunte, Ural Thomas & The Pain.

Mounika's debut single "Cut My Hair" with Cavetown has amassed over 120 million streams in total, and his last album "I Need Space" garnered support from High Times, Billboard, BBC, and KCRW. "Tender Love," one of the tracks from "I Need Space," was the Top 5 most Shazam'd song in France during December 2020.

Mounika is set to head on tour across France with Wax Tailor this spring, offering fans the chance to experience his unique universe live. With "Don't Look At Me" set to be released in May, fans can expect to hear more of Mounika's delicate and personal compositions that showcase his love for trip-hop, piano, and artists who influenced him like Moby, Ratatat, Air, and Bonobo. "Nomadics" is a smooth and calming single that showcases Mounika's unique sound, and it's sure to be a hit among his fans and anyone looking for experimental and chill music.
