Introducing Christian Kuria with Soothing "Enemy"
Christian Kuria Mesnard is a Kenyan-American producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Vallejo, CA. Born into a 7th Day Adventist household, the church has always been an irrevocable part of the 25-year-old's musical identity.
Christian initially gained notoriety via his 'neo-soul' guitar videos on YouTube, as well as covers of contemporary popular music, such as Khalid’s “Young, Dumb, and Broke”. In early 2019, he started to release his own original music under the moniker, Christian Kuria.
Later that year, Christian was invited to join Cautious Clay on his fully sold out tour of North America. Following the tour, Kuria released his debut EP ‘Borderline’, which led to a 600% increase in his listenership and garnered substantial editorial playlist support. The track "Enemy" starts with drums and smooth neo soul sounding guitar with its smooth rifs, Cristian's vocals don't come in long after. The artist shows a lot of promise with the way he floats over the instrumental, he also shows range with his high tones and falsettos. He most definitely shows off his writing chops here as well, the hook is definitely something to remember with "girl you make me feel like an enemy..." The harmonies here are exactly what the instrumental was calling out for, well delivered and I hope to hear more. Listen now.
