Now, turning our attention to her latest single, "2 Steppin," Cherise takes us on a sunny, funk-filled journey inspired by her late maternal grandfather. Cherise fondly reminisces about her childhood, when her mother would bring her and her sister from Luton to Hackney to be babysat by her grandfather. She vividly recalls following him through the streets of Dalston, with his remarkable swag and a distinctive two-step, moving unhurriedly down Ridley Road. Cherise channels her grandfather's demeanor into this groove-heavy ode, reminding us not to sweat the small stuff. The song serves as a testament to the release one feels when stepping out of their own head, and embracing the freedom and joy of the present moment. In addition to honoring her late grandfather, Cherise pays homage to the Windrush generation, a significant theme considering the 75th anniversary of their arrival in England. She reflects on her gratitude for what she has while maintaining a strong desire to define, on her own terms, what it means to be second-generation. This powerful sentiment encapsulates Cherise's ability to infuse her music with personal experiences and connect with her audience on a deeper level. With her newest single, "2 Steppin," Cherise continues to captivate listeners with her mesmerizing voice, soulful storytelling, and remarkable ability to create music that is simultaneously contemporary and timeless.
