Babe Rainbow - "Super Ego"

Hailing from the enchanting coastal town of Byron Bay in Australia, Babe Rainbow is a musical band that has made waves in the psych-pop scene. Known for their unique blend of permaculture farming, boogie psychedelia, and "throwback" surf cult imagery, this group has captured the hearts of music enthusiasts worldwide. Formed in 2015 by kiosk lurkers Jack (Cool Breez), Angus Dowling, and Elliot O'Reilly in Rainbow Bay, their journey began in a small corner of the world steeped in natural beauty. Before the band's inception, the trio found themselves working for a local farmer named John Cutts in Duranbah, New South Wales, near the famous "tropical fruit world." It was here that they gained an appreciation for sustainable farming practices, as John and the guys were ahead of the curve, cultivating kale long before it became a trendy superfood. Reflecting on their experiences, Angus notes, "We've seen plenty of vegetables go in and out of fashion." This connection to the land and nature would later manifest in their music and imagery. Rooted in the sounds of 60s psychedelia and 70s French surf-pop, Babe Rainbow's musical style has evolved throughout their career. Their explorations have taken them through elements of woodland bop, folk disco, dub, dance, and international groove. However, amidst these stylistic journeys, they have managed to maintain an Aquarian quality, anchored by Dowling's spacemen-like singing style and Cool Breez's chiming effects-based guitar sounds. It is this distinctive combination that sets them apart and captivates their listeners. In 2015, Babe Rainbow wrote and recorded their first release, "The Babe Rainbow EP," in a humble office space in Murwillumbah. This EP caught the attention of national broadcaster Triple J and Flightless Records, the label founded by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. The following year, in 2016, they released their debut album, produced by Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard fame. This album propelled them onto the international stage, as they toured alongside renowned acts such as Allah Las, Tomorrows Tulips, and French synth wave band La Femme. Subsequently, Babe Rainbow signed their debut album to 30th Century on Columbia, releasing "Double Rainbow" in 2018 and "Today" in 2019, completing their three-record deal. The band now owns all of their masters and shares their releases through their own label, EUREKA! Music, in partnership with AWAL. Fast forward to the present, and Babe Rainbow is ready to unveil their newest single, "Super Ego," which serves as a tantalizing glimpse into their upcoming EP, "Fresh As A Head Of Lettuce," set for release on June 16th. Following its exclusive worldwide premiere on triple j, "Super Ego" is now available across various music platforms. "Super Ego" showcases Babe Rainbow's ability to blend pop-infused psychedelia with a polished edge, creating an ethereal and cheerful offering. The track's captivating vocals blend seamlessly with a natural sense of flow and an innate panache. Produced by Timon Martin and mixed by Jorge Elbrecht, the song emanates flawless precision. With an almost somnolent yet buoyant indie-pop sound, "Super Ego" enters the sonic arena with balance and clarity. Its lo-fi, luscious, and distinctly slick qualities make it a delightful sensory experience. As Babe Rainbow continues to push musical boundaries and enchant audiences with their psychedelic sounds, it's clear that they are a band destined for even greater heights.
